Proud to be Counted: LGBTQ Census Support Service

Hello,
We are reaching out to spread the word about Switchboard’s census support service – running throughout March and April to support LGBTQ+ people in completing the census
This is the first time in history that the census will ask about Sexual Orientation and Trans Status, so it’s a huge opportunity for LGBTQ communities to be counted and represented on a whole new scale
This new population data is hugely important for charities like Switchboard to evidence the need for better inclusion for LGBT communities, and for those who may have struggled to see themselves reflected in history and in society today, the census has the potential to be powerfully affirming
We can provide support online or by phone to any LGBTQ person in England or Wales. We hope to offer in person appointments should restrictions ease. You can find out more or book an appointment with one of our trained volunteer advisers here or call us between 12 and 7pm on 01273 234009
We are able to provide support completing the census, but also with correcting misinformation such as name, sexual orientation or gender that may have been filled in by another person. When we correct this information for an individual, it is not shared with the rest of their household
Whether someone is struggling due to literacy, technology skills, confidence or language barriers
– we have ways we can offer support
