The Prime Minister, supported in principle by the Leader of the Opposition, has just announced the effective end of lockdown and coronavirus restrictions in England from 4 July, in less than 2 weeks’ time.
Here are the highlights:
The Prime Minister said that detailed guidance on how all this can be achieved safely will be published soon.
As stated above, this will be guidance only, and it appears that businesses, organisations and people will be free to ignore them if they wish. This also, of course, enables the Government to push the blame onto other people, for any future Covid-19 outbreaks, in order to avoid any further esponsibility they may have themselves.
The Prime Minister said that future outbreaks, of Covid-19, would occur and local lockdowns might be imposed to contain them. It isn’t clear how this can be done if the supporting legislation is being abolished.
The PM again said, that the NHS ‘test, track and trace’ system would enable the NHS to play ‘whack-a-mole’ with any future outbreaks of the virus.
